Faro de Colonia del Sacramento

2009

Description

The story tells that the number of shipwrecks that occurred in the vicinity of the coast of Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay was so high, that the need for a lighthouse to guide to mariners became imminent.
It was built during the government of Gabriel Pereira mid nineteenth century, and funded through the collection of taxes on incoming ships to the ports of Colonia and Montevideo.
When traveling at night along the Rio de la Plata to Colonia, you can check the nine seconds that serve as preamble to each clink of the thirty-four feet high lighthouse located in the Barrio Historico.
In contrast, during the day, you can fully appreciate the overwhelming nature of its forms, as compensation for the absence of the dark sign seduction that is seen for miles.
Go to check its mark on San Francisco Street is a must for any visitor who wants to boast of knowing Colonia del Sacramento. And once you are there, it is a highly recommended experience to visit it in order to contemplate the exquisite combination of land and sea that is projected from it´s viewpoints.
