Description
The picturesque little street is flanked by mud houses that defy time and art galleries that give bright color. Your typical Portuguese style, structure and original stones have made it to become one of the city of Colonia del Sacramento preferred to appear in photos and postcards worldwide.
The reason for its name, is a puzzle that tries to be explained by hypotheses exciting. Some believe it's because in colonial times there were taverns and brothels with prostitutes in men aroused sighs aplenty.
Others say it is because of her last sigh prisoners walked to the river to be shot. While the romantics, prefer to adopt science to explain the nomenclature, and say it is for the whistle you feel the wind from the Rio de la Plata.
It is a walk that certainly deserves a little place on the agenda of any visitor, a required course for anyone who wants to feel the magical fusion of history, urbanism and nature. A place to take the camera in hand and get to photograph. It's a throwback in time generating many new sighs.
